This Otomí tablecloth is embroidered by hand in the highlands of Hidalgo. Each figure—birds, deer, florals, abstract shapes—is drawn freehand onto natural cotton, then stitched with dense fill stitch over several weeks.

The Indigo Grey embroidery brings a soft, modern tone to the traditional design. Ideal as a centerpiece, layered textile, or wall hanging.

Every piece is completely unique. Slight differences in composition and stitching are part of the value.

    About the Region

Threaded Stories and Symbolic Stitching in Hidalgo

High in the mountains of Hidalgo, Otomí embroidery is more than a craft. It is a language of memory, myth, and identity. Known as Tenangos, these intricate textiles are drawn freehand and stitched entirely by women from the Otomí-Tepehua communities of Tenango de Doria. Each motif—deer, birds, suns, and flowers—carries symbolic meaning rooted in ancient Mesoamerican worldviews. Created over weeks or months using dense fill stitch techniques, each textile is a testament to tradition, resilience, and the artistry of women whose stories are woven into every thread.
