This tablecloth is hand-embroidered by women artisans in Tenango de Doria, Hidalgo. Each design is sketched freehand—never traced, never repeated—and stitched using punto de relleno (fill stitch) over several weeks.

Birds represent messengers, flowers are offerings, and deer are protectors of the natural world. The mustard embroidery offers a warm, grounded tone—ideal for dining tables, layered textiles, or as wall art.

Every piece is one of a kind. Slight variations in stitching and pattern are part of what makes it special.

    About the Region

Threaded Stories and Symbolic Stitching in Hidalgo

High in the mountains of Hidalgo, Otomí embroidery is more than a craft. It is a language of memory, myth, and identity. Known as Tenangos, these intricate textiles are drawn freehand and stitched entirely by women from the Otomí-Tepehua communities of Tenango de Doria. Each motif—deer, birds, suns, and flowers—carries symbolic meaning rooted in ancient Mesoamerican worldviews. Created over weeks or months using dense fill stitch techniques, each textile is a testament to tradition, resilience, and the artistry of women whose stories are woven into every thread.
